Ziemniaki i is a not-for-profit hosting space and bookshop based in Warsaw, Poland. Our foundation’s goals are focused on researching the relevance and perseverance of myth and folklore by placing them in the constellation of contemporary life, digital technologies and creativity. We approach these subjects by hosting exhibitions, interdisciplinary meetings, talks, storytelling events, workshops, rituals and more.
We welcome anyone and anything that wants to join us in doing so.
As a hosting space with a focus on speculation, participation and performativity, we’ll expand the work done in Warsaw by sharing it with our network. And as a bookshop our stock focuses on art, design, anthropology, ecology, collective action, gender studies, queer theory, philosophy of technology, myth and folklore.
We’ll be active as a space that uses storytelling to mediate between people and things: putting pressure on our disciplinary edges in the hope that they’ll warp, just enough, to be noticeable from the outside.
If we’re to believe in a future-less-fucked, then we need to tease out our shared stories and mesmeric tales.
Ziemniaki i is currently in the hands of Joshua Plough and Joanna Żaboklicka.
The foundation’s advisory board consists of Marek Konatkowski, Harrison Hopkins and Agnieszka Mazur.
Fundacja Ziemniaki i was thought of and built by cultural workers and is therefore mainly made up of artists, designers, curators and writers. It welcomes all other professions, non-professions, humans and non-humans which might help in achieving its goals.
The foundation recognises that art and design are not a salve to solve all social problems, nor is simply acting critically. We believe that creative expression can go part of the way there, laying the communicative and shared foundations for future collaborations.
The foundation and its associates will honour the following principles:
-Ziemniaki i will work collaboratively towards the depolarisation of people and ideas through the creative arts.
-Ziemniaki i will always mediate, facilitate, support, educate, exhibit, discuss and propose with humour, instead of hubris.
-Ziemniaki i commits itself to tackling the climate catastrophe using the means mentioned in this charter and our statute.
It will achieve all of the above by supporting artists, designers, writers and storytellers; exploring the contemporary relevance of folklore; and engaging both the local and global in the creation of binding rituals.
Opening times:
Wed – Sun: 10am – 6pm
Mon – Tue by appointment
